My sister Lindsay commissioned me to paint an album cover for her band, Crone Craft. She wanted cottonwood trees and a fairy ring. A fairy ring is a naturally occurring circle from which fairies are said to enter and exit this realm. Cottonwoods are easy to find in Wyoming so I went to the park, sat down, and drew a cluster of young trees. A circle of wild mushrooms makes an excellent portal for fairy folk. Then I came home and applied watercolor. The square shape is one of the most challenging formats for composition--according to my college painting professor. I think it worked out well! It feels ethereal and unique, just like my sister.
